Hells Gate Bass Club held its Awards Banquet at the P.K. Chamber of Commerce Building on Friday January 13th.
The event was attended by 22 members and guests. Laurel McCracken catered the meal.
President Bruce Ray offered some observations of the club activities from the past year, on subjects from the expansion of membership, the Open Tournaments, support of Youth Fishing & the passing of 2 club members. Don Welch, of Mineral Wells, was presented the Steve McCain Memorial Angler of the Year Trophy, a perpetual trophy given to the member who weighs the most total lbs from the 13 club tournaments through the calendar year. Don weighed in 81.52 lb. Don Welch gathered up the Champion of Champions trophy. Bobby Koncak, of Possum Kingdom, won the point score tournament. Brian Morgan caught the Big Bass for the year with a lunker weighing 9.32 lb. The Top 10 anglers, beside Welch & Koncak, were Barry Smith, Mike Hallford, both from P.K., Butch Farmer, Jerry Larance, Eddie McCracken, of Graham, Bill Pillans, of Abilene, Tony Thomas & Tony Wallace. Youth Angler of the Year was a 3 way tie between Lilly Klapper, Kaleb Baldwin & Preston Baldwin. New Member Award, also known as Rookie of the Year, was earned by Butch Farmer, although, Butch has been fishing P.K. for over 40 years. New member Manfred Schiefer won the male door prize, a Lews reel, while Lacie Salazar won the Ladies door prize, donated by Laurel McCracken & Linda Hayward.
The February Tournament will be fished on P.K. on the 19th from 6.00 am to 3.00 pm with weigh in being at the low water ramp at The Harbor. For membership information contact Ric Hayward, 940 654 0804.
